Abstract Statistical Navigator is an expert (knowledge based) system that guides you to an appropriate statistical analysis. Product uses artificial intelligence reasoning and an extensive hypertext knowledge base to help you select appropriate statistical analysis for your research. Statistical Navigator considers over 200 different types of statistical analysis and includes hundreds of definitions of statistical terms.

Statistical Navigator suggests several analyses ranked by suitability and explains how they fit research objectives and assumptions. Product is compatible with major statistical packages, i.e. SYSTAT, SPSS, SAS, etc. - identifying which package can perform each analysis. Statistical Navigator has a natural language interface that lets you describe your objectives in plain English.

Statistical Navigator offers two (2) modes of operation Browse Mode and Consult Mode.

Browse Mode

In the Browse Mode you can examine detailed descriptions of each type of analysis including references and statistical packages which perform those analyses. Hypertext definitions of terms are available to help you understand these descriptions.

Consult Mode

In the Consult Mode you are asked questions about your research objectives and assumptions. Based on your answers, the program identifies the best analysis for your task. The program produces a detailed description of each recommended analysis along with references, statistical packages which perform the analysis, and a point-by-point summary of how the analysis does or does Not fit your research problem.

Statistical Navigator provides a detailed report that may be viewed on screen with hypertext definitions and/or printed for later use.
